AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/28 Report--

On September 26, the passenger Union announced domestic car import sales in September and September 2024. Data show that car imports in September were 55000, down 20% from a year earlier and 27% from a month earlier, a huge decline in September, which was rarely seen recently. From January to September, car import sales totaled 530000 vehicles, down 4% from a year earlier, but this was a negative growth for three consecutive years.

First, let's take a look at the major countries. in September this year, the top three countries with imports were Germany, Japan and the United States, with import sales of 21700 vehicles, 11000 vehicles and 9600 vehicles respectively, with the latter two falling 52 per cent and 27 per cent year-on-year, while Germany increased 17 per cent year-on-year. Slovakia and the UK ranked fourth and fifth, with import sales of 4700 and 2600 respectively, down 19 per cent and 43 per cent from a year earlier. In addition, including Sweden, Mexico, Hungary, Austria and Thailand also entered the top 10, of which Thailand soared 9500% year-on-year, but sales are not high, only 288 vehicles.

In terms of the top three countries in terms of imports from January to September, the top three were Japan, Germany and the United States, with import sales of 158100, 150500 and 86700 respectively, of which Japan grew 13 per cent year-on-year, while Germany and the US fell 16 per cent and 5 per cent respectively. Among the top 10, Slovakia, Britain, Austria, Mexico and South Korea also showed year-on-year declines, with import sales of 49000 vehicles, 34600 vehicles, 9200 vehicles, 5300 vehicles and 4200 vehicles respectively.

Next, let's take a look at the sales performance of the major luxury brands. In September, the top three imported brands were Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and BMW, with sales of 15200 vehicles, 11900 vehicles and 5100 vehicles respectively, down 10%, 70% and 24% respectively from the same period last year. BMW fell particularly sharply. Porsche and Land Rover were followed by import sales of 4400 vehicles, Audi was 4100, Volvo, MINI, Jaguar and Infiniti were 1400, 589,157 and 28 respectively, with Jaguar up 80 per cent year-on-year.

In the first nine months of this year, the top three import brands were Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, with sales of 132900, 109700 and 100000 respectively. Lexus was the only car company of the three to achieve growth, up 9% from a year earlier. the latter two fell 21% and 28%, respectively. The cumulative import sales of Porsche and Audi were 40400 and 39800 respectively, also down 33 per cent and 13 per cent respectively from a year earlier. In other words, only Lexus grew from January to September of the year. In addition to the above-mentioned car companies, the cumulative import sales of Land Rover, Volvo, MINI, Jaguar and Infiniti were 37000, 13400, 10600, 2100 and 230s respectively.

Finally, let's take a look at the sales performance of imported ultra-luxury brands. Sales of imported ultra-luxury brands were 471 in September, down 47% from a year earlier. Among the sub-brands, Bentley had the highest sales, falling 7 per cent year-on-year to 229, followed by Ferrari and Lamborghini, down 21 per cent and 20 per cent, respectively. In addition, the import sales of Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Aston Martin and McLaren were 45, 38, 26 and 7 respectively. Overall, sales of imported ultra-luxury brands continued to decline across the board in September, but this was to be expected. Sales of imported ultra-luxury brands have declined since 2023, and the decline has accelerated this year. In the first nine months of this year, sales of ultra-luxury cars totaled 4762, down 60 per cent from a year earlier, according to the data.

Generally speaking, the current domestic imported cars mainly rely on the demand support of luxury cars, while the overall trend of ultra-luxury is weak. In addition, imported cars of joint venture brands are shrinking rapidly, including Toyota, Volkswagen, Subaru and other brands. It is worth mentioning that in the face of changes and competition in the domestic market, as the support of domestic imported cars, luxury car brands also need to adjust their strategies as soon as possible to adapt to the changes in the market.
