On February 6, Wuling Motors announced on its official account that SAIC GM Wuling Motor Co., Ltd. will jointly convert the production of masks by rebuilding the production line to support front-line epidemic prevention units, helping to quell the epidemic as soon as possible.

Wuling said that with the support of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous region government and the Liuzhou municipal government, the dust-free workshop for the production of masks will be rebuilt by Guangxi Construction Engineering Group and will be completed and put into use within this month. A total of 14 mask production lines have been set up, of which 4 are N95 mask production lines and 10 are general medical mask production lines, with a daily production capacity of more than 1.7 million. It will quickly alleviate the shortage of medical supplies in Guangxi.

At the same time, SAIC GM Wuling initially invested 35 Baojun E100 as epidemic prevention vehicles to assist grass-roots medical and health units in rapid investigation and triage of the epidemic, and mobilized dealers across the country to support epidemic prevention and police vehicles for relevant local departments.

Although China is the largest producer of masks in the world, the supply of masks in China is obviously insufficient in the critical period of epidemic prevention and control. According to relevant data, China currently has a daily production capacity of more than 8 million masks, with a maximum daily production capacity of 20 million masks. From this figure, it seems large, but compared with the national demand, the supply gap of masks is still very large.

The operation of turning to production of masks as a car company seems unprecedented, and if SAIC GM Wuling is successfully put into production, the daily production of 1.7 million masks will greatly ease the shortage of masks. In addition, SAIC GM Wuling also urgently transported 20,000 medical masks from overseas and donated them to the Liuzhou municipal government to support front-line epidemic prevention and control work.

In addition to SAIC GM Wuling, according to media reports, GAC GROUP is also preparing for related matters, using the production line to produce masks.
