AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)10/23 Report--
According to foreign media reports, Volvo has expanded its recall of 306782 old models worldwide, including some of the V70 and XC70 vehicles from 2001 to 2008, of which 2008 models in the US market were not affected. Earlier, Volvo announced that it would recall 460769 vehicles worldwide, including the 2001-2006 S80 and the 2001-2009 S60, which were manufactured between May 2000 and March 2009. Of these, 259383 are from the United States market. With the expansion of the recall, Volvo has recalled a total of 767551 vehicles worldwide twice.
Previously, Volvo said that if the airbag inflator propellant tablets were affected by high humidity and high inflator temperature, the problem would occur over time. The tablets begin to rot and form dust particles, increasing the pressure and "burning speed" of the equipment. These factors may cause the inflator to break and spray metal fragments into the occupants. The defect appears to be similar to that of airbags made by Takata, which triggered the largest recall in car history.
It is worth mentioning that, according to the latest media reports, Volvo announced a recall plan in overseas markets, including 2001 to 2007 partial Volvo V70 and XC70 models produced between February 22, 2000 and May 4, 2007, totaling 194546 vehicles. It is understood that the reason for the recall is that some models have adopted Takata airbags, and their airbag inflators have quality problems and may explode in the process of deployment. Its airbag inflator is produced by American Tianhe Automobile Group, which is owned by Zaifu. It is not difficult to guess that Volvo's announcement of a recall of the old XC70 and V70 in overseas markets should be part of an expanded recall of 306782 older models.
Volvo did not disclose the cost of the recall because it could be expensive. Prior to this, Takata, a Japanese airbag supplier, went bankrupt because of problems with airbags produced by Takata, which caused a number of car companies around the world to be recalled and lost billions of dollars. up to now, the safety of airbags still affects global car companies.
