A few days ago, the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L real car picture was exposed online, which is the first time that the model has been presented in front of the camera without camouflage. As a medium-term revamped model, the new car will be redesigned for appearance and interior, and will provide only 1.8T power. As a reference, the price range of Dongfeng Peugeot 508L (fuel version) currently on sale is 159700-224700 yuan.


In terms of appearance, the front face of the new car follows the overall design of the overseas version, and the brand-new front face design is replaced with a large-size borderless forward air grille and a new lion standard LOGO. At the same time, the shape of the headlights is slender, with three LED daily lights extending downward on both sides, with matrix LED as the internal light source, while the current models for sale are equipped with LED headlights, with a fanged lower encirclement design below, making the front face look more radical and create a good sense of movement.



In the rear part of the car, the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L tail mark is replaced by the English letter, and the "508L" logo indicates the domestic extended identity. However, the internal structure of the taillight is not synchronized with the change of overseas models, the style is basically the same as the models on sale, and all use new materials, the texture is quite good.



In terms of interior decoration, the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L continues to use a highly recognizable cockpit design, with physical buttons on the lower side of the large central control screen, but the shift lever shape is not synchronized with the overseas design of the new Peugeot 508. It is worth noting that the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L adds stitching to the door handle, seat, central handrail, steering wheel and other details, increasing the sports atmosphere and advanced sense. In addition, the new car has been updated for the car-machine system, equipped with BLUE-i 3.0 intelligent network connection system, and integrated wireless Huawei Hi-Car, Baidu Carlife and so on.


In terms of power, according to the declaration information, the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508L will not launch a 1.6T version, with a 1.8T engine (400THP tail standard), a maximum power of 211hp, a peak torque of 300Nm, and an 8-speed manual integrated transmission. As a reference, the Dongfeng Peugeot 508L currently on sale offers three power options: 1.6T engine, 1.8T engine and 1.6T plug-in hybrid.

The Peugeot 508, a transformation of France's Peugeot, was officially unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. As an alternative to the Peugeot 407 and 607, the 508 has larger body sizes and richer technology configurations.

In July 2011, Dongfeng Peugeot, a subsidiary of DPCA, introduced the 508 model into domestic production and sales, providing two sets of powertrains, 2.0L+5 speed manual transmission and 2.3L+6 speed automatic transmission, with a price range of 16.97-229700 yuan.


In March 2019, the Peugeot 508 is a model specially built for the Chinese market by the PSA Group. Compared with the European version, the new car adds 60mm on the wheelbase, which is more in line with the preferences of Chinese consumers, but it also cancels the hatchback design, frameless doors and other designs that some consumers are eager for.


As a young and fashionable medium-sized car owned by DPCA, the new Dongfeng Peugeot 508 competes with Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Volkswagen Passat, Nissan Teana and so on. However, sales of the Peugeot 508L are so low that they are hardly comparable to the above models. In the first half of the year, for example, Peugeot 508L sold 3193 vehicles, ranking 38th in medium-sized car sales, while Camry, the top seller, sold 102491.

September 26, 2020 marks the 210th anniversary of the Peugeot brand, but the brand's sales performance in the Chinese market is not satisfactory, and the best way to reverse sales is to launch a blockbuster product. At present, Dongfeng Peugeot models on sale include 408Compact 408X, 508L, 2008, 4008, 5008 and so on. Although the products are rich, the market performance is mediocre. Dongfeng Peugeot sold 17286 vehicles in the first half of the year, of which Peugeot 408 sold the highest 7078 vehicles.


With the arrival of the new Dongfeng Peugeot 308L, it is very likely that it will be difficult to change the market performance of the Peugeot brand and even DPCA in China. If DPCA wants to reshape the brand and product power of French cars, it still needs to make more efforts in marketing and promotion.
