AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/23 Report--

On August 23, according to foreign media reports, Xiaomi has obtained the qualification for the production of new energy vehicles. Xiaomi has won approval from China's state planning agency to produce electric vehicles (EV), according to people familiar with the matter, marking an important step towards the smartphone maker's goal of "producing cars early next year". In addition, the National Development and Reform Commission, which oversees new investment and production capacity in China's auto industry, approved Beijing-based Xiaomi to produce electric cars earlier this month. Xiaomi's joint venture is the fourth joint venture approved by the National Development and Reform Commission since the end of 2017.

In response to the above news, as of press time, Xiaomi official did not respond.

In March 2021, Xiaomi Group announced its official entry into the auto circle. "Xiaomi car is the last major start-up project in my life," Lei Jun said at a press conference. "Xiaomi car is willing to bet the whole reputation of my life and lead the team to fight for Xiaomi car." In September 2021, Xiaomi Automobile was officially registered as "Xiaomi Automobile Co., Ltd.". Lei Jun, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, served as the legal representative. On November 27, 2021, Xiaomi officially settled in the Beijing Economic and technological Development Zone. According to the plan, Xiaomi will build a complete vehicle factory in two phases to achieve an annual output of 300000 vehicles, of which the first and second phases will have a production capacity of 150000 vehicles respectively.

Since then, there has been a lot of news about Xiaomi car manufacturing in the market, especially after 2023, but there is no definite news about Xiaomi car production qualification. There is news in the market that Xiaomi will be qualified through acquisition, but this news has not been officially confirmed. In June this year, Beijing Baowo Automobile applied for cancellation of car production qualification. after the news was released, the industry said that Xiaomi could not obtain direct cooperation in qualifications from Baowo. Since then, the topic of Xiaomi car manufacturing qualification acquisition channels has once again become one of the topics of concern in the industry.

According to the plan, the first model of Xiaomi is expected to be officially mass produced in the first half of 2024, and as the mass production of the first model is put on schedule, the mystery of Xiaomi's car construction is being unveiled little by little. On Aug. 19, Lei Jun, founder, chairman and CEO of Xiaomi Group, and Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, all participated in Xiaomi car road test in Xinjiang. Hu Zhengnan, investment partner of Shunwei Capital, revealed Xiaomi's energy consumption on his social media.

According to the latest news, Xiaomi insiders revealed that this year Xiaomi's primary and secondary battery suppliers have finalized Sinovel (formerly known as Zhongchuang Lithium) and Ningde era. Xiaomi insiders say Xiaomi has made it clear that it will focus on software rather than hardware as its main profit strategy. In order to maintain Xiaomi's consistent cost-effective advantage, Xiaomi's parts profit margin will be maintained at about 1%, and future profits will mainly depend on software services and ecological services.

Judging from the current progress of Xiaomi car construction, it has been two and a half years since Lei Jun first announced Xiaomi's entry into the smart electric vehicle industry. Although the progress of Xiaomi car is not fast, it is advancing methodically. If the news that Xiaomi car has been qualified for production is true, Xiaomi car building may usher in significant progress.

In the second half of 2023, the new energy vehicle market is still in the process of reshuffling, and the competition between car enterprises can no longer rely on one or two hot-style cars to survive, which to a certain extent aggravates the knockout stages among vulnerable car companies. Although technology companies such as Xiaomi and Baidu have Internet advantages in the field of car manufacturing, the threshold for car manufacturing is high and the competition is fierce, so it is not easy to succeed in the market.

Since Xiaomi joined the car-building field, it has been questioned by the outside world, and Lei Jun has repeatedly talked about Xiaomi car-building through social platforms, including whether it is too late for Xiaomi to mass produce. Lei Jun has said that some people think that Tesla entered the electric vehicle industry more than 10 years earlier than Xiaomi and that Xiaomi has missed the time window to enter the electric vehicle industry. But Lei Jun denied missing the car-building window, saying that "the race has just begun." Lei Jun said: "cars are a century-old racetrack, as long as we are optimistic about the automobile industry, it is never too late." And frankly, Xiaomi can only succeed if it becomes the top five trams, and the goal is to enter the first camp of the industry by 2024.
