On September 5th, Great Wall Automobile released KuaiBao for production and sales in August. Data show that Great Wall sold 114100 vehicles in August, up 29.32 percent from a year earlier. The cumulative sales from January to August were 742400, up 4.76 percent from a year earlier, and 46.40 percent of the annual sales target of 1.6 million vehicles has been achieved.


Great Wall has five brands, including Harvard, Wei Brand, Great Wall pickup, Euler and Tank, all of which grew year-on-year in August, according to data released by Great Wall.

In terms of brand segments, the Harvard brand sold 66523 vehicles in August, up 31.99% from a year earlier. Since Harvard Owl Dragon / Owl Dragon MAX went public, sales of the Harvard brand began to rise. Take the July sales figures as an example, the top three models sold by the Harvard brand in July were the Harvard H6, the Harvard Dog and the Harvard Owl Dragon MAX, with sales of 16922, 10630 and 6197, respectively. Harvard Owl Dragon MAX has sold 15383 vehicles since its launch, including 6098 in June, ranking 97th in the country, and 6197 in July, ranking 95th in the country.


However, in terms of cumulative sales in the first eight months, the growth of the Harvard brand is still relatively slow, with cumulative sales of 422134 vehicles from January to August, up 5.38 per cent from a year earlier. At present, the Harvard brand continues to improve the product matrix, and more new cars will increase the sales of the Harvard brand when it comes to the market. On August 21, the new Harvard H5 launched a total of six models, offering gasoline and diesel versions with a price range of 12.28 yuan to 157800 yuan. the car is based on a tank platform, uses a non-load-bearing body structure and locates a full-size SUV, making it the largest SUV of the Harvard brand.

In addition, at the 2023 Chengdu Auto Show, the Harvard brand's new SUV model "Harvard Raptor" was officially released and opened for pre-sale, with a pre-sale price range of 16-190000 yuan. As a brand new product, the Harvard Raptor is designed in hard style, powered by a 1.5T Hi4 plug-in hybrid system and equipped with rear axle differential locks. According to the plan, the new car will be officially launched in mid-September, and the model will be sold by Havron in the future. Officials say there have been more than 10,000 pre-sale orders for the car on the 10th.


Wei Brand also grew, with sales rising 81.75% to 5618 vehicles in August from a year earlier, the highest growth among the five major brands of Great Wall Motors, also due to the launch of the new car Blue Mountain. On April 13, the new Wei brand model "Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV" launched a total of two models with a price range of 27.38-308800. At that time, the industry believed that the big six Blue Mountain DHT-PHEV priced at about 300000 was the key for Wei to open 2023, and that was indeed the case. From May to July this year, the sales of Wei brand were 5770, 6602 and 6652 respectively, up 128.97%, 128.68% and 119.25% respectively from the same period last year. The main sales came from Lanshan, which was newly listed. In short, the listing of Lanshan successfully stopped the decline in sales of Wei brand.

In the first eight months of this year, the cumulative sales of Wei brand was 30420 vehicles, but due to the poor performance in the first quarter, the increase of Wei brand in the previous August was only 8.22% year-on-year. In addition to the Blue Mountain model, Wei Brand's first high-end new energy MPV Alpine DHT-PHEV has also been officially booked at the Chengdu Auto Show and is expected to go on sale soon.


Consider the Euler brand, which sold 10206 vehicles in August, up 11.41 per cent from a year earlier. As the only pure electric brand under Great Wall, the Euler brand has three models on sale: good Cat, Lightning Cat and Ballet Cat, among which Euler Cat is the best-selling model of the Euler brand. In early August, the Euler brand launched a time-limited discount, including a 22000 yuan discount for Euler Cat / good Cat GT, with a starting price of 107800 yuan after the discount, and a Lightning Cat discount of 30, 000 yuan, with the latest price starting at 159800 yuan. The reason is that the new model has just been on the market. The industry believes that the price reduction of the Euler brand is mainly to enhance the competitiveness of products to participate in market competition. It should be noted that in the first eight months of this year, the cumulative sales of the Euler brand was only 67620 vehicles, still down 12.31% from the same period last year. It was the only brand under the Great Wall brand that showed a decline during the year.


Finally, let's take a look at Great Wall's high-end off-road brand tanks. tank brand sales rose 46.62 per cent to 14674 in August from a year earlier, with a cumulative sales of 86491 from January to August this year, up 12.95 per cent from a year earlier. Tank brand products on sale include tank 300 and tank 500. among them, tank 300 is the main model of tank brand sales. according to the Federation of passengers, the cumulative sales of tank brands from January to July 2023 are 61521, of which 52737 are tank 300s. it accounts for 86% of the total sales, while the tank 500 is only 8784.

At the 2023 Chengdu Auto Show, the tank 400Hi4-T was pre-sold, and two new models were launched with a pre-price range of 28.5-295000 yuan. the car is located in a medium and large SUV, with a non-load-bearing body and a plug-in hybrid combination of 2.0T+P2 motor and 9HAT. The new car is expected to go on sale in the third quarter, and it remains to be seen whether it can become a new sales growth model for tank brands.


At present, Great Wall is in the throes of new energy transformation, but despite the impact of the first quarter, Great Wall has performed well in the next few months. Since April this year, Great Wall car sales have rebounded, and the Harvard brand and Wei Brand have returned to growth under the layout of new products. Great Wall is coming out of the doldrums with mixed models, but it is still a bit "aggressive" to meet its sales target of 1.6 million vehicles.

According to the plan, Great Wall Motor will focus on new energy vehicles this year, and more than 10 new energy vehicles are expected to be launched this year, and the penetration rate of new energy vehicles will reach 40% to 45%. "Harvard is the sales base of Great Wall," Li Ruifeng, chief executive of Great Wall Motor, said in an interview with the media. "the success of Harvard's new energy transformation is directly related to the smooth progress of Great Wall's new energy transformation strategy."
