AutoBeta( Report--

Weibo car blogger @ spoon Education victim posted a video saying that a Mercedes-Benz EQC burst into flames in a parking lot on Nov. 11, which spread to nearby vehicles, and several vehicles, including Mercedes-Benz EQCs, were destroyed.

From the video point of view, Mercedes-Benz EQC at the beginning of the video has almost been covered by the fire, and the specific location of the fire is not clear, and the parking lot is an open-air parking lot, fierce fire in the wind, the fire quickly surrounded the car, strong black smoke also gushed out, there are traces of emergency rescue at the scene, but it is clear that fire extinguishers can hardly play any role in such a big fire.

Due to the expansion of the fire, the fire of the Mercedes-Benz EQC quickly spread to nearby vehicles, and both Harvard and BYD parked on both sides suffered, but not only because BYD and Hafer caught fire, the vehicles parked in the same row were also affected and burst into flames. As the Mercedes-Benz EQC is an electric car, coupled with the fierce fire, people nearby dare not come forward to put out the fire, so they can only call 119. during this period, the fire expanded again and even the vehicles in the rear were ignited, and firefighters rushed to the scene and began to fight the fire.

Although the cause of the fire of the Mercedes-Benz EQC is not clear, the final result is not difficult to predict. Many vehicles, including Mercedes-Benz EQCs, were severely damaged, but fortunately there were no casualties in the process.

Data show that the EQC is the first pure electric model of Mercedes-Benz, officially listed in China on November 8, 2019, positioning medium-sized pure electric SUV, the current price is 49.98-579800 yuan, based on the fuel version of GLC (39.78-587800 yuan). In terms of power, Mercedes-Benz EQC is equipped with a pure electric power system composed of front and rear induction induction units and ternary lithium batteries with a capacity of 79.2kWh, with a maximum power of 300kw (408hp), a peak torque of 760N ·m and a comprehensive range of 415km for NEDC. As Mercedes-Benz's first pure electric car, it is based on Mercedes-Benz GLC, that is, the fuel-to-electric model, resulting in a very low market performance. According to retail sales figures, only 167 vehicles were sold in the first ten months of 2023.

At the beginning of the launch of the Mercedes-Benz EQC, many car owners paid a high price for the Mercedes-Benz brand premium. However, Mercedes-Benz, which has been endorsed by a century-old luxury brand, EQC has been exposed that there are many product problems, such as central control screen display failure, air-conditioning system error and so on, while motor failure is a serious complaint problem, which has threatened driving safety to a certain extent.

It is understood that since the launch of Mercedes-Benz EQC, Mercedes-Benz has conducted three recalls in China. In March 2022, Beijing Mercedes-Benz recalled a number of models, including Mercedes-Benz EQCs, because the MBUX multimedia display may not start properly, causing the image of the rearview camera that helps the driver to reverse cannot be displayed on the display. Beijing Mercedes-Benz recalled 10104 EQC electric vehicles in August 2022 because the cooling system in the electric drive module of some vehicles may not be sealed enough, resulting in coolant leakage and, in extreme cases, lower output power of the electric drive module. In December 2022, Beijing Mercedes-Benz expanded its recall of EQC electric vehicles, totaling 3345.

There is no doubt that the electric vehicle business will not only become a new profit growth point for luxury car companies in the future, but also an important area of competition. In July 2021, Mercedes-Benz officially announced its electric transformation plan, and will launch pure electric models for all its market segments in 2022; starting from 2025, all its newly released model architecture will be pure electric platform. each of its models will provide customers with pure electric version options. To promote this transformation, investment in Mercedes-Benz pure electric models will exceed 40 billion euros in 2022-2030.

However, Mercedes-Benz is currently performing poorly in terms of both electric car sales and product quality, and officials have not responded to the EQC fire as of press time.
