AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/05 Report--

On January 5, Tesla announced a large-scale recall in the Chinese market, a total of 1.6176 million vehicles, covering both imported and domestic models.

According to the official website of the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products, put on record the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. From now on, recall some imported Model S, Model X, Model 3 and domestic Model 3, Model Y electric vehicles, a total of 1617643.

1. From now on, some imported Model S and Model X electric vehicles with production dates from October 26, 2022 to November 16, 2023 will be recalled, totaling 7538. It is understood that the vehicles within the scope of this recall due to door unlocking logic control problems, in the event of a collision, the non-collision side door latch may be detached from the lock, so that the door is in an unlocked state, there is a safety risk.

In order to solve the above problems, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software for vehicles within the recall range free of charge through vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology to prevent door latch and latch detachment during vehicle collision. Users do not need to go to the store to complete the software upgrade. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through Tesla service center to upgrade the software for vehicles free of charge to eliminate safety risks. Tesla warned that users are advised to drive carefully before the recall is implemented and upgrade the vehicle software as soon as possible after receiving the recall software update notice.

2. From now on, a total of 1610105 imported Model S, Model X, Model 3 and domestic Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles with production dates from August 26, 2014 to December 20, 2023 will be recalled. It is understood that the vehicles within the scope of this recall, when the automatic steering function is turned on, the driver may mistakenly use the level 2 combined driving assistance function, increasing the risk of vehicle collision, and there is a safety hidden danger.

In order to solve the above defects, Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. will use vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) technology to push newly developed functions for vehicles within recall, including additional automatic auxiliary steering control and related prompts, to further urge drivers to perform driving duties and comply with driving regulations when using this function. In order to reduce the collision risk caused by the misuse of auxiliary steering function. The recall will be implemented in phases, and users can upgrade the software without going to the store. For vehicles that cannot be recalled through remote upgrade (OTA) technology, Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will contact relevant users through Tesla service center to upgrade the software for vehicles free of charge.

In December 2023, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) disclosed that Tesla filed a recall of 2031220 vehicles, including the 2012-2023 Model S, the 2016-2023 Model X, the 2017-2023 Model 3 and the 2020-2023 Model Y, covering all models equipped with FSD Beta (fully autonomous driving) software.

According to the recall announcement, all Tesla models equipped with FSD Beta (fully automatic driving) software have safety risks and cannot ensure that drivers still pay enough attention when the system starts self-driving. FSD Beta may cause vehicles to behave unsafely near intersections, such as going straight in lanes that can only turn, not fully stopping at intersections where complete parking is required, or rushing into intersections when the yellow light is on (without due vigilance).

To this end, Tesla will solve this problem through OTA updates, that is, remote software updates to the equipment through wireless communication technology. It is worth noting that all the Tesla models currently on sale in the Chinese market are equipped with FSD and have not launched a recall in China, but it is unclear whether the recall is related to the recall in the United States and the measures taken to reduce the occurrence of accidents.

On January 2, Tesla handed over a very reluctant report card, delivering 1.81 million vehicles worldwide in 2023, an increase of 38% year-on-year and slightly exceeding the previous full-year delivery target of 1.8 million vehicles. According to Tesla's announcement, 1.7397 million vehicles were delivered in 2023 by Model 3omega Y, an increase of 39% over the same period last year. The delivery of 68900 vehicles by Magi Model Xhand S. However, although it successfully achieved its sales target, it launched several promotional policies during the year, resulting in a sharp decline in its gross profit margin. In addition, Tesla has also been kicked off the throne by BYD, which sold 3.0244 million vehicles for the whole year, an increase of 61.86% over the same period last year. It is the world's largest manufacturer of new energy vehicles and the largest domestic manufacturer of pure electric vehicles.
