AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/03 Report--

Honda will recall more than 300,000 cars in the United States on Nov.25, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA). The main reason for the recall is that there are hidden dangers in the seat belts of vehicles. Some front seat belts lack pretensioner rivets. If a vehicle collides, the risk of injury will increase.

It is understood that the models involved are mainly 2023-2024 Accord models produced from October 4,2022 to October 14,2023 and 2023-2024 HR-V models produced from April 26,2022 to October 14,2023, totaling 303,770 vehicles.

Officials said they had received complaints about seatbelt problems in May. On 20 September, the affected parts were received and an investigation into the issue was initiated. As of November 16, seven warranty claims had been received, but no injuries related to the faulty pretensioner had been reported. From January 8,2024, registered owners of affected vehicles will be notified one after another, and subsequent officials will conduct free inspections and replace seat belt pretensioner components for recalled vehicles.

Relevant information shows that the pretensioner is an important part of the seat belt. Its main function is to tighten the seat belt in time when the vehicle collides, effectively preventing the body movement of the seat occupant. The principle is to use an inert gas or spring device, if the vehicle encounters a collision, the pretensioner detects that the vehicle decelerates and quickly tightens the seat belt, reducing the degree of physical injury to the seat occupant.

It is worth noting that this is the second large-scale recall Honda has announced in the United States since November. On November 17, Toyota announced a recall of nearly 250,000 vehicles produced between 2015 and 2020 in the United States due to engine defects. The recalled models mainly involve 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline and 2018-2019 Odyssey.

Officials pointed out that the engine failure was mainly due to improper equipment for manufacturing the engine crankshaft, which easily caused wear and seizure of the engine connecting rod bearings and damaged the engine. A damaged engine will largely cause abnormal operation or flameout during vehicle driving, thus increasing the risk of fire, crash and personal injury. Subsequent officials will carry out free inspection and maintenance of the engine and replace the engine if necessary.

In addition, in June this year, Honda also launched a large-scale recall in the United States. Honda launched a large-scale recall of 1.3 million vehicles worldwide due to potential problems with vehicle rear-view camera images, including 1.2 million vehicles in the U.S. market, mainly involving some Odyssey models produced in 2018-2023, Pilot models from 2019-2022 and Passport cars from 2019-2023.

Judging from the scale of Honda's several recalls in the United States this year, they are all large-scale recalls, and the recalled models are also popular models. For car owners, the recall of problematic models can ensure the safety of subsequent vehicles and also reflect the responsible attitude of automobile enterprises, but frequent recalls will inevitably have a certain impact on brand reputation.
