According to the data, Tong Dongcheng was born in 1956 and graduated from the Investment Department of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Looking at his work resume, he has deep attainments in the automobile field and can be regarded as a veteran of Dongfeng Company.

In May 1971, Tong Dongcheng worked in the engine factory of the second Automobile Factory; in April 1991, he was appointed Deputy Director of the engine Plant of the second Automobile Factory; in December 1994, he was appointed Director of the body Factory of Dongfeng Automobile Company; in July 1997, he was appointed Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Automobile Company and General Manager of Dongfeng truck Company; in July 2001, he was appointed member of the standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Company; in April 2005, he was appointed Chairman of Dongfeng Nissan & Chai Automobile Company. In September 2005, he was appointed director, vice president and general manager of Dongfeng Commercial vehicle Company.

In January 2010, Tong Dongcheng no longer held the post of general manager of Dongfeng Commercial vehicle Company, but also served as deputy general manager of Dongfeng Motor Company and vice president of Dongfeng Automobile Co., Ltd., responsible for leading the new energy vehicle development business of Dongfeng Motor Co., Ltd. at the same time, he is in charge of commercial vehicle business. In May 2017, Tong Dongcheng no longer served as member of the standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Company. Calculated according to the time of leaving office, it means that it has been six years since Tong Dongcheng left his post as member of the standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of Dongfeng Motor Company. Six years after leaving office, he is still investigated by his "old employer", which is not common in the auto industry.

Due to the long chain and large scale of the industry, the automobile industry is relatively prone to corruption. In recent years, Dongfeng Company has also exposed the problem of corruption one after another, but unlike other automobile groups, as a central enterprise, Dongfeng Company has acted vigorously in the anti-corruption campaign, and has never stopped, "zero tolerance" for corruption.

According to incomplete statistics, as of December 23, 2023, a total of 26 senior executives of Dongfeng Company have been investigated. The latest one was on December 21, when the official account of the discipline Inspection Commission of Dongfeng Automobile Group, "Clean Dongfeng", issued a notice: Gao Xianli, formerly the marketing center of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd., was suspected of serious violations of discipline and the law. He is currently under disciplinary examination and supervision investigation by the discipline Inspection Commission of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd. and the Supervisory Commission of Jiayu County, Xianning City, Hubei Province. Rao Jie, the former head of the New Business Strategy Promotion Office of the Product Planning Department of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd., has voluntarily surrendered on suspicion of serious violations of discipline and the law. He is currently under disciplinary examination and supervision investigation by the discipline Inspection Commission of Shenlong Automobile Co., Ltd. and Jiayu County Supervisory Committee of Xianning City, Hubei Province.

In a report published on the website of the Central Commission for discipline Inspection and the State Supervisory Commission, it was pointed out: "the automobile industry is a key industry facing the risk and challenge of corruption, and we must maintain the intensity of 'punishment', adhere to the main tone of 'strict', build a solid anti-corruption barrier, and strictly prevent 'relying on cars to eat cars'." The relevant person in charge of Dongfeng Company also told the media: "since the 18th CPC National Congress put forward eight regulations, Dongfeng Company's anti-corruption work has begun one after another. For Dongfeng Company, anti-corruption work has been going on, and has become a regular work."
