AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/03 Report--

A few days ago, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd., Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. and Fujian Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products.

I. Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd.: Since March 12,2024, the recall of some imported Class C, Class E, Class G, Class S, CLS, AMG GT, GLC SUV, GLE SUV and GLS SUV vehicles with production dates from August 2,2021 to January 31,2023 has been expanded, totaling 65191 vehicles.

II. Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd.: Since March 12,2024, the recall of some domestic Class C, Class E and GLC SUV vehicles with production dates from July 1,2021 to September 30,2022 has been expanded, totaling 203248 vehicles.

III. Fujian Benz Automobile Co., Ltd.: Since July 29,2024, the recall of some domestic V-class and Weiting vehicles with production dates from December 1,2021 to March 31,2023 has been expanded, totaling 14621 vehicles.

It is understood that some vehicles within the scope of this recall do not meet the requirements of material characteristics due to the impeller of the fuel pump, the impeller is deformed and friction occurs with the fuel pump housing, and the resistance increases. In extreme cases, it may cause the fuel pump to stop working, resulting in vehicle flameout during driving, and there is a potential safety hazard. In view of the above defects, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd., Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. and Fujian Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will replace the fuel delivery module for vehicles within the recall scope free of charge through authorized dealers to eliminate potential safety hazards.

It is worth mentioning that this recall belongs to the expanded recall of the recall activity of "Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile Sales Co., Ltd., Beijing Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. and Fujian Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. Recall Some Imported and Domestic Vehicles" issued on August 18,2023. According to the announcement at that time, the three companies recalled 231249 vehicles in total. Through follow-up investigation, the producer confirmed that the scope of defective products needed to be expanded.

According to public information, DENSO Corporation, founded in December 1949 and headquartered in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is the world's top supplier of automobile system parts. Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Ford, Geely Automobile, Chang 'an Automobile and other automobile giants are purchasers of electric equipment. It is understood that the defect of the fuel pump of Denso Company is that the impeller is not perfectly formed in the manufacturing process, which leads to the deformation of the impeller during the operation of the fuel pump. In its extreme state, the engine may suddenly flameout during the driving of the vehicle, and there is a large potential safety hazard.

Due to defects in the fuel pump produced by Japanese parts giant Denso Co., Ltd., a number of domestic automobile enterprises initiated a large-scale recall at the beginning of September 2019, including GAC Honda, Dongfeng Honda, FAW Toyota, GAC Toyota, Chang 'an Mazda, FAW Mazda, GAC Mitsubishi, etc., all of which fell into the recall door due to defects in the fuel pump. In recent months, a number of automobile enterprises have carried out product recalls for fuel pump defects in China, such as Honda China/GAC Honda/Dongfeng Honda on January 5, Toyota China/GAC Toyota/FAW Toyota on December 1,2023, etc., indicating that more companies may take recall measures in the future. Earlier, the Japanese government announced the recall of 482,000 vehicles due to defects in the fuel pumps produced by Denso, involving a number of well-known automobile enterprises such as Subaru, Mazda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Honda and Yamaha, involving more than 30 models. There are problems with the fuel pumps of these vehicles, which may lead to engine flameout or hybrid motor loss of power, resulting in potential safety hazards.
