AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/25 Report--

According to the Nikkei Chinese website on March 25, Mitsubishi Motors' classic model, the Pajero, will be revived. The car will be produced in a factory in Southeast Asia and will be available on the Japanese market as early as 2026. According to Japanese media reports, the new Pajero will be based on Triton trapezoidal girder chassis, showing the most authentic off-road style, the car is planned for mass production in Thailand, and then shipped to the Japanese market.

The envisioned picture exposed on the Internet shows that the front face of the new car is embellished with a stout strip similar to Triton, with a new style of headlamp group, the overall vision is very rough. The smooth lines of the car body give people a sense of stability and strength. The rear part of the car is also expected to be equipped with new taillights. However, as of press time, officials have not disclosed more details about the model.

Pajero is an off-road vehicle owned by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors and the first small three-door four-wheel drive off-road vehicle, which was first developed and produced in 1982. Mitsubishi Motors announced that it would stop production of Pajero in 2019 because of poor sales. Since then, the car officially bid farewell to the Japanese market.

According to the data, the first generation Pajero made its debut in 1983. There are two versions of the car, three-door and five-door versions, also known as L040. The car is powered by in-line four-cylinder and V6 engines and diesel engines until it stopped production in 1991. The following year Mitsubishi Motors launched the second-generation Pajero, which, like the first generation, offers three-door and five-door versions with the same power, but introduced a new four-wheel drive system and a 2.8-liter and 3.5-liter V6 engine after 1993. It is worth mentioning that after its launch, this generation of models participated in various cross-country events, including the Paris Dakar Rally, and did not stop production until 1999. The third-generation Pajero, which was unveiled in 1999, has a significant change in appearance and a larger body compared to the previous two generations, with the introduction of a 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine and a new 3.2-turbine diesel engine. The fourth-generation Pajero went on sale in 2007, with a major change in power, with a 3.2L in-line four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged engine and a 3.8L V6 MIVEC gasoline engine, which was sold until 2019.

During this period, Pajero also derived four major types of models, namely, Pajero prototype off-road vehicle V-series, SUV sports vehicle Pajero SPORT, small SUV sports leisure vehicle Pajero iO, and mini SUV sports leisure vehicle Pajero MINI. Among them, Pajero has sold more than 2 million models in more than 170 countries in the world.

As one of the representatives of the Japanese hardline SUV, Pajero also has a domestic version. It should be noted that although Pajero imports and domestic belong to medium-sized SUV, but in the model positioning of domestic Pajero is lower than imported Pajero, domestic Pajero is a medium-sized SUV under GAC-Mitsubishi car, based on Mitsubishi Triton pickup chassis, the price range is 29.80-398600 yuan, the power is equipped with a newly adjusted 3.0-liter V6MIVEC all-aluminum alloy engine.

If the above news is true, it means that Mitsubishi Pajero SUV, which has been out of production for many years, will return to the market, but the information about the new car is still very limited, and the follow-up "auto industry attention" will continue to follow.
