AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)05/30 Report--

Research data shows that by 2026, the number of pure electric vehicles and hybrid models in the United States will increase to 1.28 million, but the market competition will be fierce, and many brands will have difficulty making profits from new models, but Tesla will still be the leader in electric vehicles.

IHS Markit predicts that the U.S. automotive market will have 43 brands launching as many as 130 electric system models, including pure electric models and hybrid models. Sixty percent of sales in the future electric vehicle market will come from the top ten car brands, of which Tesla will account for 25% of the electric vehicle market.

At present, many automobile manufacturers around the world have carried out electrification research and development, especially Volkswagen Group, Daimler, General Motors and Ford Motor, which have entered the field of electric vehicles to compete.

Tesla sold 240,000 electric vehicles to consumers worldwide in 2018 and expects sales to reach 360,000 to 40 this year. Although Tesla's sales are high, it has been difficult to make profits most of the time since its launch.

Tesla delivered 63000 vehicles in the first quarter of this year, down 31% from 90966 in the fourth quarter of last year and well below market expectations of 76000 vehicles. Of these, Model 3 was 50900 units, lower than the expected 51750 units and less than the third and fourth quarters of 2018. Combined Model S and Model X sales of 12100 units in the first quarter of this year were the lowest since the third quarter of 2015, and analysts said the drop could result in Tesla's revenue falling more than $1 billion short of expectations.

However, Tesla's development is very rapid, from the data shows that the Model S has won the second place in the United States since its launch in 2012, but it took only five years; while the Model 3 has won the first place in the United States since its launch in 10 months. As of May this year, Tesla's only three models occupied the first, second and fifth positions in the United States.

Tesla's rapid development cannot be separated from its strategy. As electric vehicles will replace fuel vehicles in the 21st century, the country will also subsidize electric vehicles. Tesla is positioned to produce electric supercars at subsidized prices close to the average model price. However, compared with electric vehicles developed by traditional car companies, Tesla has been positioned as "luxury" and "personality" from the beginning, and has an almost invincible sense of power, equipped with various high-tech equipment.

As things stand, Tesla is following the path outlined in the Secret Vision. From making sports cars for the rich to making more affordable models, Model S, Model X and Model 3, Tesla has solved several difficulties in the process, such as capacity crisis, chronic losses and delivery crisis.

The Model Y is a seven-seater midsize SUV that, as Musk has previously said, is 10% larger than the Model 3's body size but costs 10% more. It is understood that Model Y is based on the platform of Model 3, and the two cars have 75% common parts.

Perhaps Tesla wants to target each product and lead the market share of each positioning.

In the face of China, a very large market in the world, Tesla has also made a domestic Model 3 for China to seize the Chinese electric vehicle market at a lower cost and price.
