AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)08/26 Report--
It is not too much to say that Toyota Prado is the representative of the hard off-road model, the leather is durable, the drive is not bad, and the high second-hand preservation rate is the representative word of Prado. Since entering the domestic car market in 2003, Prado firmly occupies a place in the hard cross-country market segment with excellent performance and strong off-road performance.
However, as China's automobile emission standards become more and more stringent, Toyota hegemony is also restricted, and the original high-performance version of Toyota overbearing 4000 was forced to stop production. Recently, the sixth national emission standard, which can be called "the strictest in history", has been formally implemented, and Toyota's domineering 2700 is also facing the crisis of stopping production.
After the implementation of the national six emission standards in many provinces and cities in advance on July 1 this year, the sales of domestic Prado in the national five standards have been affected to a certain extent. According to the latest figures from the Federation of passengers, Prado sold 1683 vehicles in July 2019, a sharp drop of 47 per cent from a year earlier.
A few days ago, there is also a "Sichuan FAW Toyota production AVALON model project environmental impact report (referred to as the" report ") document has been exposed.
Prado 3.5L products will be discontinued in June 2020 under the influence of the sixth national emission regulations, the report said. The Prado 3.5L is the only domestic Prado model left by FAW Toyota, priced between 400000 and 600000 yuan. If production is officially stopped next year, it means Toyota Prado will stop production altogether.
Although the Prado is a niche model, it has performed well in this market segment for more than a decade in China. According to the data, the annual sales of Prado hovered at 20, 000 to 30, 000 vehicles in the past decade, peaked at 55000 in 2017, fell to 35000 in 2018, and rebounded to nearly 20, 000 in the first half of 2019, up 30% from a year earlier. But the industry predicts that Prado may enter the downward trajectory in the second half of this year.
Starting from July 1, a number of provinces, cities and regions across the country began to implement the national six emission standards, and the national five models can no longer be licensed in the corresponding areas. The Prado 3.5L is a national five model, which has been banned in many places. At present, more than a dozen provincial and municipal regions, including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hebei, Henan, Shandong, Tianjin, Chongqing and Anhui, have begun to implement the sixth national emission standard ahead of schedule on July 1, 2019. July 1, 2020 is the date on which the Ministry of Environmental Protection and other ministries expressly require that all light vehicles sold and registered should meet the requirements of the sixth national emission standard. In other words, Prado will stop production before the state regulations for passenger cars fully implement the sixth national emission standards.
For the discontinuation of domestic Prado, there are also fans lamenting that there are no domestic models, then choose imported models. But it can be guessed that after the end of the transition period, imported Prado is also very difficult to buy. If parallel imports of Prado fail to meet the sixth national standards, they will also face elimination with the full implementation of the sixth national emission standards next year. However, it does not rule out the possibility that overseas factories will be converted into national six Prado models specifically aimed at the Chinese market.
Not only the domestic Prado version 3.5 can no longer satisfy country 6, the new Mercedes-Benz Big G, FJ Cool Luze, Tuller and other hard off-road vehicles with V8 and V6 engines will also encounter various import restrictions and sales restrictions in the future because they can no longer meet the standards of country 6, especially the travel restrictions of China's big cities on country 4 and country 5.
Therefore, in fact, not only the suspension of domestic Prado production is about to become a fait accompli, after the suspension of domestic Prado production, we hope that the import Prado channel, may also be blocked in the future. As a result, the suspension of Prado is just a microcosm of the gradual withdrawal of large-engine cars from the Chinese market.
