AutoBeta( Report--

On August 8, the official chart of the eighth generation BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version (code G68) was officially released. As a replacement model, the new BMW 5-Series adjusts its appearance and interior design, provides fuel version and plug-in version in power, and introduces a pure electric version of BMW i5 (code name G60 BEV). It is understood that the current BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version will be discontinued in November, the new BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version will be put into production in January 2024 at the earliest, and will continue to be put into production at BMW brilliance's Shenyang Dadong plant. As a reference, the guide price of the current BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version is 43.65-562500 yuan.

In terms of appearance, the new BMW 5-Series continues the design style of overseas models as a whole, retaining the slender posture of the BMW 5-Series, and the detailed design will not be as exaggerated as the BMW 7-Series. Compared with the current model, the front grille of the new BMW 5-Series is slightly larger, but not as exaggerated as the BMW 7-Series, with champagne gold around and around the front grille, which enhances the sense of luxury to some extent. The new car does not use the BMW 7-Series split headlamp design, but for the use of a more simplified "double arrow" LED headlamp group, making it more in line with the minimalist aesthetic trend of the current era.

On the side of the body, the new BMW 5-Series outline and surface are very simple, there is no extra design, and the whole looks stable. The new car uses the same built-in door handle of the BMW i4 and is no longer integrated with the shoulder line of the body, the Huo corner of the C-column triangular window is more obvious, and the decorative lines of the window frame are expected to provide piano black or chrome plated style. the new digital "5" logo is added at the Huo corner, and the BMW i5 will produce a blue breathing light effect when charging. In the rear part, the shape of the redesigned taillight is more recognizable and integrated with L-shaped chromium plating decoration, highlighting the luxury attribute of the vehicle.

In terms of interior decoration, the new BMW 5-Series uses a 12.3-inch + 14.9-inch double screen design, which can also be seen on the BMW 7-Series. At the same time, it is equipped with a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel, following the principle of "Shy Tech" invisible technology, the number of physical keys of the whole vehicle has been greatly reduced, and the center console has indeed simplified a lot compared with previous models. In addition, the new car will also be equipped with embracing interactive light belt, hidden air conditioning outlet and light belt design into one, making the visual effect of the car more simple.

It is worth mentioning that the new car will be equipped with a rear suspended giant screen, this luxurious configuration from the BMW 7-series will become an exclusive option for the domestic long-wheelbase version of the 5-series, the screen size is 31 inches, the resolution is 8K, and supports real-time interconnection. Not only that, the new car will also be equipped with high-end configurations such as Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and four-zone automatic independent air conditioning (with independent control panel in the back row). Finally, the back of the front seat will also be equipped with the Chinese character "five" exclusive logo to further highlight its special identity as a domestic version of the model.

In terms of power, the new BMW 5-Series family will provide a wide range of powertrains for users to choose from, including the fuel version and the plug-in hybrid version, which is expected to continue to carry a 2.0T engine + 8-block self-contained gearbox. At the same time, an all-electric version of the BMW i5 will be launched for the first time, but the relevant power parameters have not yet been announced.

The BMW 5-Series is a medium and large sedan owned by BMW, which is one of the main models in sales. From January to July 2023, a total of 393700 BMW 5-Series vehicles were sold, including 72500 BMW 5-Series vehicles, according to the Federation. In the BBA market, the BMW 5-Series lagged behind Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi A6L, which sold a total of 91644 and 94000 in the previous July.

Generally speaking, there are still a lot of surprises for the new BMW 5-Series. Overseas versions tend to be more comprehensive than domestic models in some configuration levels, but we see differences in the upcoming domestic brand-new generation of models. for example, the back-row screen, which belongs exclusively to the domestic market, may also reflect the importance BMW attaches to the Chinese market.

It is worth mentioning that, as an old rival, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class will also usher in a replacement. At present, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class long wheelbase version has been declared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The new car is expected to be unveiled in the third quarter and put into mass production in November. By contrast, the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class is faster, and I wonder if it will have an impact on the BMW 5-Series market.
