It doesn't sell? Selis's sales halved in August.

On September 2nd, Cyrus Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Selis Group") announced its production and sales of KuaiBao in August. According to the data, Selis Group sold 6243 new energy vehicles in August, down 57.37% from a year earlier, of which 3263 were sold by Selis, which is dominated by AITO, down 67.52% from the same period last year, which also means that the sales of the AITO brand jointly built by Selis and Huawei are not satisfactory. By the end of August, Selis had sold a total of 33264 vehicles, down 15.64 per cent from a year earlier.


It should be noted that Cyrus Group reports wholesale sales. On Sept. 1, AITO officially released new car delivery figures for August. Data show that the AITO series delivered a total of 5018 new cars in August.


AITO is the core brand of Selis, which has long accounted for more than 70% of its total sales, and the decline in sales has directly poured cold water on Selis's results. On August 30, Cyrus released its results for the first half of 2023 for the year ended June 30. According to the financial report, Selis's operating income in the first half of the year was 11.032 billion yuan, down 11.14% from the same period last year; the net profit loss was 1.344 billion yuan, compared with a net loss of 1.727 billion yuan in the same period last year.


Selis said that from a single quarter, Selis sales of new energy vehicles increased by 24.30% in the second quarter compared with the previous quarter, and the new energy vehicle business advanced steadily. In addition, the company maintained high R & D investment in the core technology field of new energy vehicles, and R & D expenses increased compared with the same period last year. However, Cyrus expects that the five-seat version of the M7 will drive performance growth.

As Huawei's deep-empowered AITO boundary, data show that the cumulative sales of Selis new energy vehicles in 2022 was 135100, an increase of 225.9% over the same period last year. Since the start of delivery in March 2022, the QQ series has sold more than 75000 vehicles a year, making it the fastest growing new energy vehicle brand. However, after entering 2023, its sales did not continue the trend of rapid growth in 2022, but began to show a downward trend.

According to the sales data of MFC, in the first half of 2023, the cumulative wholesale sales of M5, M5 EV and M7 models were only 232.46 million, of which M5 sold more than 10,000 vehicles, while M7 sold poorly, only 432 in June.


Industry insiders believe that Huawei Smart car is no longer exclusive to Cyrus. Huawei has already announced its cooperation with Chery to build a car. At present, the first pure electric coupe of Huawei Smart car has appeared on the declaration catalogue. The new car, built jointly by Huawei and Chery, is expected to go on sale in the third quarter of this year based on the same E0X platform as Xingtuxing era ES. In addition, Huawei's first new car after smart selection with BAIC New Energy is a C-class pure electric smart sedan, built on the polar fox platform and produced at the Bowo Miyun plant, and is expected to make its official debut next year.

As Huawei continues to lay out the auto circle, Huawei's position among car companies has long changed, and so is Cyrus. During the year, Cyrus made many innovations, including the signing of a joint business agreement with Huawei, the establishment of a joint sales and service working group, and the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with Bosch China. At present, Cyrus can only rely on Huawei, but it is not the only company that cooperates with Huawei to build cars, but also BAIC, Changan, Chery, Jianghuai and so on. There will be more cooperation with Huawei in the future. In this context, Cyrus may not be able to occupy a dominant position in the future.


Up to now, the models on sale in AITO include M5/M5 EV and M7. The new M7 Big five of AITO will be officially listed on September 12, officials said. The new car has already been pre-sold at the 2023 Chengdu Auto Show, with an advance price of 258000 yuan. The new car only fine-tuned its appearance, but removed the third row of seats and replaced the second row with three seats, and officials said orders had exceeded 5000 as of Aug. 31. In addition, in the fourth quarter of this year, Cyrus will launch the AITO M9, which will be equipped with a Hongmeng 4.0 cockpit, and Huawei ADS high-end self-driving assistance will also be better than the M5 model, with an estimated price range of 50-600000 yuan.

However, with the intensification of competition in the auto market, AITO will also face a lot of pressure. Not long ago, Yu Chengdong said to the outside world that with the automobile industry "getting more and more popular", the future reshuffle and market competition will be very fierce, and it is predicted that BYD will become one of the few giants that will survive in the future. It is hard to say whether other car companies will survive. And further explained: "manufacturers who can work closely with Huawei can survive and become a small number of survivors."
