On September 7, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued an announcement that Chang 'an Ford Automobile Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Measures for the Implementation of the Regulations on the Administration of Recall of Defective Automobile Products. Since January 1,2024, a total of 5442 Mondeo plug-in hybrid vehicles manufactured between August 25,2017 and July 25,2019 have been recalled.

The reason for the recall is that the power battery energy control module (BECM) of the vehicle within the scope of this recall may be damaged due to excessive voltage and current, resulting in the power battery unable to provide driving force for the vehicle; or local heat accumulation occurs in the trunk area where the module is located, which may cause fire in extreme cases, resulting in potential safety hazards.

In response to the above defects, from January 1,2024, Changan Ford Motor Co., Ltd. will upgrade the software for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge through authorized Ford brand dealers to optimize the power battery control strategy and increase the warning and warning information of vehicles before failure. As of April 1, 2024, BECM harnesses with safety circuits are replaced free of charge for vehicles covered by the recall to eliminate safety hazards.

Mondeo, which is currently on sale, went on sale in April 2022, with a 2.0T version in the early stage and a 1.5T model launched this year, with a price range of 149,800 - 216,800 yuan. It is understood that Mondeo is Ford's first global model, in 1986 spent $6 billion research and development, is one of the most expensive models in the history of automobile development, Ford hopes to build it into a "world car." However, since 2000, Mondeo sales in the European and American markets have declined, and by 2020 it has been discontinued in several markets, gradually becoming a special model for China.

In February 2004, Mondeo entered the Chinese market. The car was launched as the second production car of Chang 'an Ford. At that time, the second generation model was introduced, with a price of 2098 - 229,800 yuan and only 2.0L engine. In November 2007, the third generation Mondeo-Zhisheng was launched. Four new models were launched, with a price range of 1818 - 239,800 yuan. Two engines of 2.0L and 2.3L were provided on power. In August 2013, the fourth generation Mondeo was officially launched, and the design elements derived from Aston Martin were sought after in the market. However, due to years of failure to replace, its product strength and design aesthetics could not keep up with the development of the times, and Mondeo market sales soon began to decline.

According to the data, from 2016 to 2017, Mondeo sold 101,000 vehicles and 112,200 vehicles cumulatively. However, the sales volume plummeted to 45,400 vehicles in 2018, and only 17,600 vehicles, 25,000 vehicles and 34,300 vehicles respectively from 2019 to 2021. Compared with the sales of Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Magotan and Nissan Teana, which sell more than 100,000 vehicles annually, Mondeo is still less than a fraction of the above-mentioned models.

On April 13,2022, Chang 'an Ford launched a brand-new generation of Mondeo, which was also a brand-new generation of Mondeo in the past 8 years. Four new models were launched. At that time, the price range was 1598 - 216,800 yuan, which was 33,000 yuan lower than that of the old models at that time. As a new generation of models, the appearance and interior of the new car have been improved. The power launched in advance is equipped with 2.0T turbocharged engine, maximum power 175kw, matching 8-speed manual self-contained gearbox.

After the launch of the new car, Mondeo sales began to improve significantly, with cumulative sales of 58449 vehicles in 2022, ranking 15th in the midsize sedan list. According to the latest data, Mondeo sold 25271 vehicles from January to July this year, including 4174 vehicles sold in July.

According to the number of recalls, the number of Mondeo recalls is not high, and the recalled models do not involve a new generation of Mondeo, which is part of Mondeo plug-in hybrid vehicles produced between August 25,2017 and July 25,2019. However, in view of the above defects, Chang 'an Ford will not upgrade the software for the recalled vehicles until January next year, and replace the BECM harness with safety circuit free of charge in April of the same year. Chang 'an Ford pointed out that users should not charge vehicles until they have completed recall repairs to reduce vehicle safety hazards.
