AutoBeta( Report--

Since Xiaomi announced the construction of the car, how to obtain the qualification of Xiaomi has attracted much attention in the industry.

Today, there are media reports, according to people familiar with the matter, Xiaomi has not yet obtained the production qualification. In addition, the report also said that Xiaomi has held talks with a number of well-known automakers about potential production cooperation, including brilliance and Chery. At the same time, Xiaomi Group is still trying to obtain relevant approval from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and discussions with other automakers are also under way. Xiaomi responded to the report: declined to comment, and brilliance and Chery have yet to respond.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time Xiaomi has been exposed to discuss cooperation with other car companies. As early as last August, it was revealed that Xiaomi had held talks with BAIC on a potential cooperation in the production of electric vehicles, including Xiaomi's direct purchase of the second Hyundai plant in Beijing, which has a car production license. However, in response to these messages at that time, Xiaomi said: no relevant exact information was received. Earlier, there was news that Xiaomi might take on Beijing Bowo's car-building qualification, but this speculation was that as Beijing Bowo Motor applied for cancellation of its car production qualification in June this year, it meant that Xiaomi could not obtain qualification cooperation directly from Bowo. On Aug. 24, there was another news in the market that Xiaomi had received approval to produce electric vehicles (EV). At that time, officials said: "there will be no response".

It is understood that at this stage, with the rapid development of new energy vehicles, the national requirements for new energy production qualifications are becoming more and more stringent. In other words, it is not easy to obtain new energy production qualification now. After 2018, the National Development and Reform Commission basically did not approve the application for new car manufacturing qualification, which is why the new car manufacturing enterprises represented by ideal, Xiaopeng and Weima all obtained the production qualification through mergers and acquisitions. In order to produce electric vehicles, first of all, we need to comply with the "regulations on the Management of newly built Pure Electric passenger vehicles" of the National Development and Reform Commission and the "New Energy vehicle access regulations" of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

Xiaomi makes cars and seems to have everything ready. However, with regard to car-building qualifications, there is no clear news from the authorities. Although Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the production qualification, there have been a series of recent signs that Xiaomi cars may be coming. The official Wechat account of Xiaomi car was officially launched on October 9. At the same time, Xiaomi Automobile also posted the recruitment of related automobile research and development jobs online. Earlier, many netizens also released test photos of Xiaomi cars in Turpan, Xinjiang. On August 2nd, Xiaomi completed the domain name filing of the "" website.

In addition, in terms of battery suppliers, it has also been reported that Xiaomi's primary and secondary battery suppliers have identified China Chuangxin Airlines and Ningde Times as battery suppliers at this stage. According to official planning, the first model of Xiaomi will be launched in the first half of 2024. With the advent of 2024, the veil behind Xiaomi car building will be revealed one by one.

Of course, Xiaomi has also invested a lot of money to build cars across the border. Relevant data show that in the second quarter of 2023, Xiaomi's intelligent electric vehicle innovation business cost 1.4 billion yuan. With regard to the official cost of Xiaomi smart electric vehicles, Lu Weibing, president of Xiaomi Group, has said that the actual investment of Xiaomi cars is even greater. Xiaomi is to do the long-term layout of cars with the goal of entering the top five in the world in the future, to do full stack self-research, and to build its own car factory, and the investment of cash flow is even higher than the disclosed figures. Some industry insiders believe that Xiaomi's attempt in the field of electric vehicles may be a drag on Xiaomi's profits over the next two years, and car sales will contribute less than 5% of its revenue.

Indeed, at this stage, the new energy vehicle race track has become more and more fierce, the price war will further explore the price of new energy, Xiaomi car will be launched in 2024, with the rapid development of the market pattern, will also face higher challenges. Earlier, many netizens thought that Xiaomi was too late to build a car. In this regard, Xiaomi Lei Jun has also responded: cars are a century-old track, as long as you are optimistic about the auto industry, it is never too late. In addition, it is also pointed out that Xiaomi has the ability to operate and maintain electronics and user experience, and the current electric cars are all at these points, so Xiaomi cars are just right to start in 2024.
