AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/03 Report--

Recently, netizens posted a video saying that a Mercedes-Benz EQC caught fire in front of the exhibition hall of a Mercedes-Benz 4S store in Hefei, Anhui province.

From the exposed video pictures, we can see that there was an open fire at the rear of the two Mercedes-Benz vehicles at the scene, and smoke billowed from the scene. According to people at the scene, first Mercedes-Benz EQC suddenly caught fire, which spread to the EQE next door. Subsequently, firefighters put out the fire on the burning vehicle. In response to the accident, Mercedes-Benz officials said that the store would conduct detailed tests on the vehicles caught on fire.

It is worth noting that this is the third fire in the Mercedes-Benz EQC in nearly two months. On November 11, a Mercedes-Benz EQC caught fire in the parking lot of a hotel in Jinghu District, Wuhu, Anhui Province, burning a row of vehicles parked next to it. From the video sent out by the network, we can see that the whole Mercedes-Benz EQC is surrounded by fire, and the fire at the scene is very big. In October, a Mercedes-Benz EQC caught fire in the parking lot of a shopping mall in Zhengzhou, Henan province. the fire also spread very fast, and a large number of open fires appeared at the bottom of the vehicle.

Data show that the EQC is Mercedes-Benz's first pure electric model, listed on November 8, 2019, positioning medium-sized pure electric SUV, based on the fuel version of GLC, the price is 57.98-622800 yuan.

Although the new car is the first model of Mercedes-Benz to turn electric, it is highly expected by the authorities. However, the listing of EQC did not meet official expectations. Statistics show that Mercedes-Benz EQC sold 258 vehicles in 2019. Or in order to reverse sales, in the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC launch, the official price cut, the new car price range of 49.98-579800 yuan. However, the price has gone down, but there has been no increase in EQC sales. Data show that Mercedes-Benz EQCs sold 3303 vehicles in 2022. There has been no improvement in Mercedes-Benz EQC sales since 2023, with 2 Mercedes-Benz EQCs sold in November and 169 this year.

At the same time, Mercedes-Benz EQC has been recalled many times in China in recent years. In March last year, Beijing Mercedes-Benz recalled a number of models, including Mercedes-Benz MBUX electric vehicles, because the car's multimedia display may not start properly, preventing the image of the rearview camera that helps drivers back from the display, increasing driving risk. In August of the same year, Beijing Mercedes-Benz recalled 10104 EQC electric vehicles because there may be insufficient sealing in the cooling system in the electric drive module of some vehicles, resulting in coolant leakage, and in extreme cases, the output power of the electric drive module will be reduced. Officials said they would replace the improved electric drive module assembly for vehicles in the recall area free of charge through authorized dealers to eliminate safety risks.

To make matters worse, in addition to poor sales of Mercedes-Benz EQCs, the market performance of other Mercedes-Benz electric models such as EQA, EQB, EQC and EQE is also very low. Sales are not ideal, and frequent recalls make Mercedes-Benz in a very passive position in the electrified transformation. Return to the fire incident, although the official has not yet announced the specific cause of the fire, but the recent frequent fire incidents will inevitably have a negative impact on the brand reputation.
