On January 2, BMW China announced that the new generation of BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version was officially launched at BMW's Shenyang production base, and the new car will be delivered nationwide in early 2024. It is understood that the new BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version was unveiled at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show. The new car is expected to announce the price at the end of January and will launch seven fuel models / five pure electric models.

At the 2023 Guangzhou Motor Show, the eighth generation BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version (codenamed G68) was officially unveiled. As a replacement model, the new BMW 5-Series adjusts its appearance and interior design, provides fuel version and plug-in version in power, and introduces a pure electric version of BMW i5 (code name G60 BEV). As a reference, the guide price of the current BMW 5-Series long wheelbase version is 43.65-562500 yuan.

In terms of appearance, the new BMW 5-Series continues the design style of overseas models as a whole, retaining the slender posture of the BMW 5-Series, and the detailed design will not be as exaggerated as the BMW 7-Series. Compared with the current model, the front grille of the new BMW 5-Series is slightly larger, but not as exaggerated as the BMW 7-Series, with champagne gold around and around the front grille, which enhances the sense of luxury to some extent. The new car does not use the BMW 7-Series split headlamp design, but for the use of a more simplified "double arrow" LED headlamp group, making it more in line with the minimalist aesthetic trend of the current era.

In terms of interior decoration, the new BMW 5-Series uses a 12.3-inch + 14.9-inch double screen design, which can also be seen on the BMW 7-Series. At the same time, it is equipped with a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel, following the principle of "Shy Tech" invisible technology, the number of physical keys of the whole vehicle has been greatly reduced, and the center console has indeed simplified a lot compared with previous models. In addition, the new car will also be equipped with embracing interactive light belt, hidden air conditioning outlet and light belt design into one, making the visual effect of the car more simple.

It is worth mentioning that the new car will be equipped with a rear suspended giant screen, this luxurious configuration from the BMW 7-series will become an exclusive option for the domestic long-wheelbase version of the 5-series, the screen size is 31 inches, the resolution is 8K, and supports real-time interconnection. Not only that, the new car will also be equipped with high-end configurations such as Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system and four-zone automatic independent air conditioning (with independent control panel in the back row). Finally, the back of the front seat will also be equipped with the Chinese character "five" exclusive logo to further highlight its special identity as a domestic version of the model.

In terms of power, the new BMW 5-Series family will offer a wide range of powertrains for users to choose from, including the fuel version and the plug-in hybrid version, which is expected to continue to carry a 2.0T engine + 8-block self-contained gearbox. At the same time, a pure electric version of the BMW i5 will be launched for the first time.
