On January 11, Guangzhou Automobile Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall, filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall the following vehicles from now on.

Guangzhou Automobile Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 87092 domestic hybrid BREEZE and plug-in hybrid BREEZE series cars produced from January 4, 2019 to December 29, 2022.

Dongfeng Honda Motor Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 169000 domestic hybrid versions of CR-V and plug-in hybrid CR-V cars produced during the period from June 8, 2017 to August 17, 2022.

The reason for the recall is that for the vehicles within the scope of the recall, due to the layout problem of the battery positive wire harness, when the left front of the car collides at a specific angle, the battery positive wire harness may be damaged and there is a risk of short circuit fire. In view of the above defects, Guangzhou Auto Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Honda Motor Co., Ltd. will replace the improved battery positive wire harness for vehicles within the recall range free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

The two models recalled by Honda are sister models to each other. BREEZE is a compact SUV owned by Guangzhou Auto Honda, while the CR-V is Dongfeng Honda's SUV and the first Honda model that Dongfeng Honda has introduced into China.

The first Haoying model went on sale in November 2019, with a price range of 16.98-252800 yuan at that time. In December 2022, Guangzhou Auto Honda's new generation Haoying fuel version was officially launched, with a total of seven models priced between 18.58 and 249900 yuan. The car is based on the new Honda Architecture platform and is powered by a 1.5T DOHC direct injection VTEC 240TURBO turbocharged engine with a maximum power 142kW and a peak torque of 243N ·m, which is matched by a CVT gearbox.

As for the CR-V, it was first introduced into domestic production by Dongfeng Honda in April 2004. since then, it has become one of Honda's best-selling SUV models, and once became a domestic compact SUV "top student". The CR-V currently on sale is the sixth generation model, which was launched in September 2022, with a total of 7 models with a price range of 18.59-249900 yuan. it provides three kinds of power systems: fuel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid power. among them, the SPORT TURBO sharp T is equipped with a 1.5T direct injection VTEC turbocharged engine, which matches the G-Design Shift stepless gearbox, the maximum power 142kW and the maximum torque of 243N ·m.

Although the prices of the two cars are similar, Haoying's popularity and sales are far inferior to those of CR-V. Retail sales data show that Haoying accumulated sales of 121900 vehicles and CR-V of 213900 vehicles in 2022 and 117600 vehicles and CR-V of 194400 vehicles in 2023.

Judging from the number of this recall, the number of the two recalls is quite large, with a total of 256092 vehicles recalled. It is worth mentioning that this is the second time Honda has launched a recall in China this month.

On January 5th, Honda Technical Research Industry (China) Investment Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Automobile Honda Automobile Co., Ltd., and Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall regulations, the recall plan was filed with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration. According to statistics, Honda recalled a large number of vehicles, up to 672720, and covered Accord, Civic and other best-selling models.

In other words, Honda has recalled 928812 vehicles in China in a week or so. The latest figures show that Honda's cumulative sales in China for the whole of 2023 were 1234181 vehicles, down 10.12% from a year earlier. The two major joint venture brands fell year-on-year, with Guangzhou Auto Honda down 13.91 per cent to 620469 vehicles and Dongfeng Honda down 4.90 per cent to 613712 vehicles.
