For Tesla, China's sales of more than 15000 in January rose sharply from the same period last year, but decreased by 8320 compared with 23804 in December, less than 70% in December, and plummeted 35% from the previous month. This is also due to a decline in sales of domestic Model 3, a leading domestic model. Only 13843 Model 3 were delivered in January, up 461.4% from 2466 in the same period last year and down 42% from a month earlier, which undoubtedly reflects the slowdown of the Tesla brand in China.

Some people in the industry believe that Tesla's delivery volume in China decreased significantly in January compared with the previous month, or that it exported a large number of Model 3 produced by Shanghai super factories, as well as affected by the global shortage of automotive chips, and may even be caused by a series of "negative" news that Tesla encountered recently.

Such as frequent quality out of control, failure problems, encountered a large number of consumer complaints. Prior to this, a media company named "Pin play" posted an article exposing Tesla's abandonment of quality control due to the pursuit of output. Tesla also took the media to court, saying it was false. Unexpectedly, in a media interview not long ago, Musk, the founder of Tesla, publicly admitted that Tesla did have quality control problems, and warned consumers not to choose products during the period of capacity expansion, and said that they would make improvements.

It was precisely because of a series of reasons that Tesla finally admitted his mistake and Tesla announced a recall in China. Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will recall 20428 imported Model S vehicles from September 18, 2013 to February 20, 2018, and 15698 imported Model X vehicles from March 12, 2016 to February 16, 2018, according to a notice issued by the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration.

At the same time, it was interviewed publicly because of product problems. On the evening of February 8, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, together with the Central Internet Information Office, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Transport and the Fire Rescue Bureau of the Ministry of Emergency Management, jointly interviewed Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., about abnormal acceleration reported by consumers, battery fire, vehicle remote upgrade (OTA) and other issues.

In response to the interview between the five departments, Tesla issued a statement in response: Tesla sincerely accepted the guidance of government departments, deeply reflected on the shortcomings of the company in the business process, and comprehensively strengthened self-inspection.

However, for these situations are after the end of Tesla in January, which will not have much impact on Tesla sales. The biggest impact may be the launch of Tesla's Model Y model, which further squeezed Tesla's Model 3 sales.

On January 1st, domestic Tesla Model Y officially announced a price reduction, with the overall price reduced by about 150000. As a result, it is reported that Model Y has reached nearly 100000 of orders in just a few days. In this case, the price reduction of Model Y will indeed seize the market of some Model 3 models.

With the commissioning of the Shanghai super factory Model Y, Tesla's delivery volume in the domestic market should be higher, but according to the data released by the Carriage Association in January this year, Tesla's cumulative sales in China was only 15484 vehicles, of which 13843 Model 3 was sold, which means that Model Y achieved only 1641 vehicles, only a small amount of delivery, and failed to achieve the expansion of production capacity, resulting in the limitation of Tesla brand.

It is worth noting that the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 210000 in December, an increase of 53.6% over the same period last year, of which the wholesale sales of pure electric vehicles were 176000. In January, the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 168000, up 290.6% from the same period last year, down 20.5% from December, of which the wholesale sales of pure electric vehicles were 141000. The month-on-month decline in the overall market also had a certain impact on Tesla's sales.

So from the current performance, although the domestic Model Y production capacity is limited, but because of the higher performance-to-price ratio of Model Y, it is not surprising that Model 3 is diverted and its sales plummeted. It can only be said that consumers would rather wait for Model Y than choose the Model 3 model delivered earlier.
