AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)06/14 Report--

According to foreign media reports, a Tesla Model 3 was driving at high speed on the 405 highway in Los Angeles, USA, when the driver of a nearby vehicle found that the driver had fallen asleep in the car. The vehicle had driven at least 50 kilometers without driver. Subsequently, the driver of the nearby vehicle filmed the video and called 911 to call the police, but when Tesla drove off the 405 highway and the US police were not present, the driver who filmed the video posted the video on the Internet to cause heated discussion.

The driver who filmed the video said: I have seen similar news before, but I still can't believe it when I saw it with my own eyes. it took him five minutes to find that Tesla's driver fell asleep in the car and kept his head down and his hands completely off the steering wheel. The whole process lasted more than half an hour, while the vehicle was still driving at a speed of nearly 100km per hour on the highway.

Tesla's driver also tied something to the steering wheel (so that the car can still maintain the autopilot assistance system when the driver's hands are off the steering wheel). He believes that if the driver dropped what was tied to the steering wheel in the incident, the autopilot assistance system will shut down and cause an accident.

Afterwards, the media contacted Tesla, and Tesla officially did not comment on the matter. In fact, similar news about Tesla's autopilot is nothing new, and the first case of Tesla's death in an accident in China also has a lot to do with autopilot. On January 20, 2016, a white Tesla in the first lane of the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway in Handan, Hebei Province crashed into a road barrier-clearing vehicle that was working ahead, causing a serious rear-end collision and severe deformation at the front of Tesla. At that time, Tesla's driver died of his injuries after being sent to hospital. In the process of dealing with the accident, the highway traffic police did not find any skid marks on Tesla's car before the collision. It was later proved that the driver's excessive confidence in Tesla's autopilot system was also one of the factors contributing to the tragedy.

After the accident, Tesla officially changed the translation of the Autopilot system on the official website from autopilot to autopilot:

It is worth mentioning that just today, Zeljko Popovic, head of Tesla's self-driving team, left to join Embark, a self-driving truck company. The timing comes at a time when Mr Musk promised at Tesla's annual shareholders' meeting that Tesla's electric cars would be fully self-driving next year, and the departure of the head of the self-driving team has far-reaching implications for Tesla.

In fact, at this stage, autopilot technology is not yet mature, even cutting-edge car companies like Tesla will "capsize" sometimes. What is more important is our drivers' vigilance in road traffic safety. If we always pay attention to the road conditions, we can take good measures before the accident.
